Fresh meat, fish and deli counters in the Tesco store at Sudden will no longer be open 7 days a week, Rochdale Online can reveal, but Tesco has not confirmed when this will take place.
A source revealed to Rochdale Online that the meat, fish and deli counters at the Silk Street store will only be open from Thursday to Sunday in “two weeks’ time” (end of March) and staff hours will be cut.
A spokesperson for Tesco said: “I can confirm the fish and meat counters will not be open every day as per your email.
“Over recent years, our convenience and online businesses have continued to grow, as have our core grocery and fresh departments in our large stores.
"Not only are customers shopping in different ways, but we know that they have less time available to shop too, which means they are using our counters less frequently. We will be making changes to the counters in our large stores to ensure that we have the right offer for customers.
“We will be doing all we can to help colleagues affected by these changes, including offering redeployment opportunities wherever possible.
“For those stores that closing or reducing trading hours, our wide range of pre-packaged meat and seafood will still be available and continues to offer fantastic value and choice for shoppers.”
