Local theatre group to put on inclusive performance with British Sign Language interpretation

Date published: 10 March 2019

Heywood Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society will be putting on a British Sign Language performance of their latest production, The Addams Family, on Saturday (16 March).

The entire 2.15pm show at the Heywood Civic Centre will be signed so that those with hearing impairments or additional needs do not miss out and enjoy the musical comedy in equal measure.

Based upon The Addams Family characters created by cartoonist Charles Addams, the musical is the first stage show based on the eponymous macabre family.

Producer Jo Weetman said: “After attending an inclusive church service, we thought about bringing it to the theatre.

“I think we’re one of the first amateur groups in the north west to have a signed performance and I’m sure it will become a regular thing.

“It really brings another dimension to the show.”

The Addams Family opened on Broadway in April 2010 before premiering in the UK in September 2016.

The signed performance will take place at 2.15pm on Saturday 16 March.
