Community allotment plans come to fruition

Date published: 10 March 2019

Big plans for a community allotment on Toad Lane are coming to fruition, thanks to Rochdale Pioneers Museum.

The ten planters dotted along the cobbled stretch will be used for growing seasonal fruit and vegetables from April as part of the co-operative pantry shop at the Toad Lane store.

Community Engagement Officer, Cat Jessop said: “Thanks to Rochdale Town Centre Management, we have secured the usage of the planters to grow our own produce.

“Our members voted on how to use the profits and they wanted to grow their own fruits and vegetables.

“We’re being supported by B&Q in Bury, but we would gladly welcome donations of any gardening equipment from local residents.

“Anyone is welcome to get involved.”

Paul Ellison, of Rochdale in Bloom, has also pledged to support the group with starting equipment.

Introduction sessions will take place and training given.
