Edenfield Road to be resurfaced this summer

Date published: 15 January 2019

Edenfield Road is set to undergo an ‘extensive surface treatment’ this summer, following complaints that the road ‘is the worst it’s been in over 30 years’.

Local resident Christine Alty has expressed concern that the section of the road between the Bridge and the White Lion Pub is ‘falling apart’.

She said: “Edenfield Road is the worst I have ever seen it in 32 years.

“It seems as though the council are resurfacing side roads while this road is falling apart. Pot holes are starting to reappear after they have patched up some areas. It is a major A-road to Edenfield; the footpaths are full of stones flicking out from the road.”

Andrew Storey, head of highways at Rochdale Borough Council, said: “We carry out repairs on highways across the borough, including main roads and side roads.

“We will be carrying out an extensive surface treatment on Edenfield Road this summer, which includes the length in question, as part of our £12m road repair programme, which will see us treat 955 roads across the borough between now and 2020.”
