Where Heywood leads others follow!

The announcement this weekend that councils should restrict the number amount they spend on translation - came as good news to Heywood Township Chairman Councillor Colin Lambert, who earlier this year insisted that a local consultation exercise would be printed and sent out in English only.
When Councillor Lambert made this decision he pointed out that those who chose to live here should learn English and that translating everything into many different languages, was not only wasteful, but did nothing to help people acquire or improve their understanding of the language.
Councillor Lambert said: "I also pointed out, that if you sent out a document in a language other than English, what did you do if the person receiving the language, phoned the council speaking in their language, the person receiving the phone call, would not be able to respond."
Councillor Lambert congratulates the Government on the decision, to limit the amount of translation being required.
