The British International Doctors Association chooses Rochdale for national conference

Date published: 19 September 2018

Over 100 doctors from clinics across the North West visited Hopwood Hall College for a national update on ‘Protecting Patients and Supporting Doctors’.

BIDA (The British International Doctors Association), a voluntary association consisting of thousands of international overseas doctors and medical graduates now working in the UK, chose to hold the conference in Rochdale after Hopwood Hall College previously hosted a medical conference for local GPs in January.

The local Rochdale and Bury division of BIDA were keen to raise the profile of the Rochdale, Middleton, Heywood, Oldham and Bury areas and highlight the contribution made to healthcare by British International Doctors.

The event brought together doctors and clinicians from both primary and secondary care, providing the opportunity to share experiences and discuss how general practice and hospital services work together both locally and nationally.

The conference, which featured prominent medical guest speakers from across the UK, gathered professionals together to discuss solutions regarding equality and fairness for aspiring doctors from around the world.

Dr. Vinod Gadiyar, Consultant in Anaesthetics and Pain Medicine and BIDA Chairman Hospital Doctor Forum, organised the event and was instrumental in ensuring the debates expanded the delegates’ knowledge of key clinical areas pertinent to the Rochdale, Bury and Oldham; including developments in the management of diabetes, COPD and stroke management.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Gadiyar said: “Having speakers from both local and national medical professional organisations, such as the British Medical Association and the General Medical Council, is a unique exercise and one I’m proud Rochdale was able to host.

“There are lot of brilliant health professionals in this area. Such an appetite for learning and development can only benefit patients and raise the profile of healthcare in the Rochdale, Heywood, Middleton, Oldham and Bury areas.”
