Heywood’s Got Talent winner impresses judges in national singing contest

A former winner of Heywood’s Got Talent wowed judges with a pop ballad in the finals of a national singing and dancing contest.

Singer Phoebe Nolan, 15, was up against more than 10,000 acts from across the UK that entered TeenStar this year, after impressing the judging panel at the auditions.

She began singing when she was 11, and has had both singing and piano lessons for the last four years.

Performing her rendition of ‘Get Here’, Phoebe went on to win in her category (Late-Teen Singers), landing a prize of studio recording time at River Studios in Hampshire.

She narrowly missed out on winning her age category prize, coming runner-up.

Phoebe said: “I’ve never done anything as big as this before. I loved it and it was a great experience. Mum wanted me to enter and encouraged me.

"It was breath-taking when they announced I had won.

“It has really improved my confidence, I made loads of friends and learned a lot. We used to warm up together and we all learned new techniques as everyone sang in different styles.”

She continued: “I was very nervous; I got through three rounds, and then decided to carry on, and then reached the grand final. I enjoyed it.”

Phoebe has begun singing at weddings and doing gigs, and will continue doing both.

She added: “I will also carry on doing videos for YouTube – and hope I get a big break, as I know it’s not going to be easy.”
