Help raise funds for a new swing in Alkrington
Date published: 13 July 2018
A local resident is aiming to raise £900 for a new children's swing at a play area in Alkrington.
Currently, a tyre swing is place at the play area on Kirkway Stocks, at the bottom of Farmway, and it is hoped that this can be replaced by a traditional seated swing.
David Siddall, who started the crowdfunder, said: “The council has said that the cost to replace the tyre swing is too expensive for them to fund, so I have put this together in the hope we can raise the money needed to install a more suitable swing in the toddler area.
“Rochdale Council has a quote to replace it for £900 and are willing to accept funds to go towards the cost.”
Councillor Neil Emmott, cabinet member for environment at Rochdale Borough Council, said: “We are looking at a request to replace the tyre swing at Kirkway Stocks park with a toddler swing as part of a borough-wide survey of playground equipment that will tell us what improvements are needed in our parks. How the swing is funded will be looked at when we know more about what the survey says but we are open to discussing ideas with residents and value their feedback.”
