Heywood Cricket Club will be holding a tribute to a former Heywood Cricket Club player Kenny Farrar on Saturday 14 July.
Kenny Farrar, played for the first team as wicketkeeper in the mid-1970s, passed away earlier this week at the age of 60.
The game against Egerton will see Heywood players wear black armbands in his memory, and it will be sponsored by his brothers-in-law Alec and Graeme Witts to raise funds for the Christie Hospital in Withington.
Many of Kenny’s large extended family will be attending.
He is survived by his wife Pamela (sister of Alec and Graeme); brothers John and Geoff; sisters Christine and Andrea; daughters Catherine, Emily and Vicky; and seven grandchildren.
Kenny, whose brother John is an avid follower of first team games, featured in the junior system at Heywood Cricket Club and was a contemporary of the likes of Rick Purser, Dave Hilton, Mark Wright and Martin Longley.
He played for the senior side 17 times from 1975-1978, taking 29 catches and scoring 17 runs.
Kenny's funeral will be at 10.00am, Monday 30 July at St James’s Church followed by Rochdale Crematorium at 11.15am. The wake is planned for Heywood Cricket Club from noon.
