Rochdale Borough Council is set to receive a £5.4M shareholder dividend thanks to the growth of MAG, the owner of Manchester Airport.
The payout is up 18% on the previous year.
Revenues and profits were both up, driven in part by a 6.5% increase in passenger numbers at Manchester.
Asked to comment on the windfall, Councillor Allen Brett, council leader and cabinet member for finance, said: "The £5.4m we receive is already accounted for within the council’s base budget and will be used to provide essential services to the public."
Manchester Airport celebrated its 80th birthday this year and consolidated its place in the top 20 European airports by posting year-on-year growth of 6.5% to serve 27.9m passengers.
