Fund-raising for Mayor's charities at Deeplish Community Centre

Deeplish Community Centre gave a warm welcome to the Mayor at a fundraiser to help raise funds to support the Mayor’s charities on Sunday.

Imam Hafiz Ikram Akhtar welcomed Mayor Mohammed Zaman and congratulated him on behalf of local community for being the first citizen of the town. He said: “We are pleased to see him in this role and he has always helped local community individual and projects in his role as a local councillor.”

Imam Mir-Azam, from Neeli Mosque, added: “It is really nice to come together to welcome our newly elected Mayor and to support the Mayor’s charities together.”

Mayor Mohammed Zaman said: “I thank everybody for coming along to support our fund-raising as my charities are providing much needed support, activities and services and are much appreciated by the young people and families who really need it.

"I am grateful to local community and businesses for their generous support for mayor’s charities and I fully appreciate this."

Rehana Mohamed MBE was also present; the Mayor congratulated her on her recent MBE. Mrs Rehana spoke to the audience and congratulated Mr Mayor. She said: “We are pleased to hold this event in honour of our mayor and to raise funds to support his charities.”

Saleem Khan JP said: “It was a lovely event with charity meal in the presence of various professionals, local councillors, magistrates, doctors, and community members. We congratulate our Mayor and community members for participating in this event.” 

Mohammed Saleem JP, chairman of Deeplish Community association, said: “It is great to see community participation, and its strength for our borough and we are proud of our good work which continuously goes on in making change and helping everyone.

Sohail Ahmad JP said: “We are pleased to welcome our mayor at Deeplish centre.  It gives us great pleasure to host this event and honour to raise funds for his nominated local charities.

“Deeplish Community Centre being a local community and charity organisation fully understands the need to support Mayor’s charities.

“This is the launch and we continue to support fundraising for Mayors charities.

"The Mayor is not only our mayor but a respected local community representative, who is always keen to help anyone in need.  We look forward in seeing him in this honourable role in his mayoral year.”

The event was attended by the leader of Rochdale Council, Councillor Alan Brett, Councillor Janet Emsley, local community leaders, business community and users of the centre.

Councillor Janet Emsley spoke about the Mayor’s charities and being one community together in one borough. She said: “The success of this afternoon is participation and generosity of the guests with everybody coming together to raise funds for the Mayors nominated charities Springhill Hospice, Petrus, Parkinson’s UK, Rochdale Community Partnership, MoorEnd Trust and British Heart Foundation.
