The Band of Royal Regiment of Fusiliers (Lancashire) launch search for new bandmaster

The Band of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers (Lancashire) is on the lookout to find a new bandmaster.

The voluntary role will work alongside musical director Cathie Brookes in programming, rehearsing and training of the band which currently has 35 members.

Philip Mather who has held the prestigious title of bandmaster for five years recently retired leaving the position vacant.

Based at Castle Armoury in Bury, the Band of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers (Lancashire) was founded by its current president to keep alive the tradition of the former constituent regiments; one of which was The Lancashire Fusiliers XX and now The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers.

The band performs regularly in the local area and at venues across the UK as well as providing entertainment at military functions and dinners.

The band is made up of entirely voluntary members who give up their time every week to ensure the band’s success.

Prospective candidates need to be able to play an instrument to a high level and be a competent conductor with wind or military band experience. They also need to be able to lead the band and be a good communicator up and down the chain of command. A good knowledge of wind and military band repertoire’s is also essential along with an understanding of military protocol. A full job specification is available on request.

Colonel Eric Davidson, president of the Band and Drum Corps of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers (Lancashire), said "This is an exciting opportunity for a military, music enthusiast to join our ever-evolving band and be part of something special moving forward.

"Our aim is to find somebody who is a natural leader, team player and takes great pride in leading a voluntary bad. It’s a big ask but we are certain there is somebody out there who will fit the bill.”
