Winners of NHS 70th birthday card design competition

Date published: 28 June 2018

Four primary school pupils from Rochdale borough have been announced winners of a competition to design a 70th birthday card for the NHS.

  • First prize: Amelia Platt, age eight, from Heap Bridge Village Primary Schoo
  • Second prize:  Enze Yu, age six, from Sacred Heart RC Primary
  • Joint third prize: Zaina Rahman, age 11, from Castleton Primary School
  • Joint third prize: Gemma Wright, age 10, from Meanwood Community Nursery and Primary School

Rochelle from Rochdale’s Healthy Heroes and Scott Hardy, Link4Life Programme Manager, presented the winners with their sports and leisure prizes at their schools.

Marcus Cockcroft, headteacher at Heap Bridge Village Primary School, said: “We’re all delighted that Amelia won first prize with her picture of how the NHS helped her grandad when he was poorly – well done Amelia.

“The competition really got our pupils thinking about the many ways the NHS touches all our lives and we’re pleased to have been part of the NHS’s 70th birthday celebrations locally.”

Amelia’s first prize winning competition entry will be displayed at Number One Riverside during July.

16 pupils were also shortlisted by judges as runners up and they will each receive a highly commended certificate.

Dr Chris Duffy, Chairman of NHS HMR CCG and local GP, said: "The standard of competition entries we received was very high and birthday card designs depicted a wide variety of NHS services which make a difference to local school pupils and their loved ones. We hope that by entering the competition, pupils have had opportunity to think about their own health and wellbeing, and been inspired to consider a career in the NHS.

“Congratulations to all our winners, and a huge thank you to all the children and schools who took part in the competition and to Link4Life for donating four great prizes.”
