Jo Cox memorial fun day held at Rochdale Thai Boxing

Date published: 27 June 2018

A fun day at Rochdale Thai Boxing Club in memory of MP Jo Cox was well-attended by the public on Sunday 24 June.

Featuring a football shootout, face painting, a bouncy castle, fire brigade and Thai boxing, plus refreshments, the day was held as part of a national ‘Great Get Together’ weekend on what would have been the politician’s 44th birthday.

Labour MP Ms Cox died on 16 June 2016 after she was shot and stabbed in West Yorkshire, where she had due to hold a constituency surgery in Birstall.

Javed Rahman, of Bridging Communities, said: “Although the land still requires a significant amount to make it an inter-generational garden, our teams pulled off a fantastic fun day that was well attended by the local community and further afield.

“This celebration reinforces that if local community facilities are provided by the community for the community, they will soar to success. With this method, everyone has pride and joy linked to the project and shared ownership.”

The land at the club had been cleared several weeks prior to remove overgrown weeds and household waste.
