A 70-year-old taxi driver is 'recovering well' after a collision near Heywood Sports Village.

Well-known driver for Diamond Number One, Fred Lord, was involved in a collision at the junction of Starkey Street and Bamford Road in Heywood at around 3.45pm on 18 June.

His daughter Natalie has since appealed for any witnesses to come forward, as her 11-year-old nephew was also taken to hospital with Mr Lord.

She said: “Hopefully forensic will get something but if anyone knows anything please get in touch. After a rough couple of days, they are both recovering well and very thankful to the ones that stopped and helped.”

Greater Manchester Police said: "At around 3.50pm on Monday 18 June 2018, police were called to reports of a collision on Bamford Street in Heywood.

"A black Vauxhall Zafira collided with a silver Toyota Avensis before the driver and the passenger fled the scene on foot. The Vauxhall had been previously reported stolen.

"Officers attended and a 70-year-old man and an 11-year old boy were taken to hospital for assessment.

"No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing."

Anyone with information should call police on 101 quoting incident number 1337 of 18/06/2018, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
