Tony Lloyd hits out at 'Tory Travel Mayhem'

Date published: 26 June 2018

Rochdale MP Tony Lloyd stood outside all three of his constituency’s rail stations yesterday protesting, along with colleagues from Rochdale Constituency Labour Party, at mayhem caused as a result of Transport Secretary Chris Grayling’s "inept management of this country’s railways".

Mr Lloyd said: “This Tory government have presided over rail fare increases of 32% since they came into power and the recent débacle with Northern Rail has left hundreds of my constituents unable to manage their commutes to and from work and collect their children on time from nursery as the service has fallen apart."

Following his visit to Rochdale Station Mr Lloyd also joined campaigners at Smithy Bridge and Littleborough stations to protest at the poor services provided to constituents.

Mr Lloyd added: “In Littleborough I met with a young family whose parents both work in Manchester, they told me about the absolute hell they have endured with cancelled and delayed trains leaving them high and dry, unable to collect their child from nursery on time.

“It is simply not good enough, my constituents deserve a considerably better service than they are getting.

“It’s about time we got a fair share of investment in an effective rail system.”
