Year 10s at Whitworth Community High School experience what an interview will be like

Students so excelled in their mock interviews that several were told they could apply for a job.

Whitworth Community High School had a range of employers from the public and private sector and colleges, to give the 121 Year 11s a taster of what it would be like when they face a real interview.

Heathcliff Howard, 14, and Alysha Quigley, 15, both excelled and were told if they wanted to work for the employer, an application would be welcome.

Heathcliff wants to be a police officer and is planning to attend a public services course at Hopwood Hall College, Middleton.

He said: “I was interviewed by someone from Rossendale Borough Council and I was asked about my achievements and about my career path.

“I explained that I had done work experience with my dad’s construction company and that if the police didn’t work out then I wanted to go into property development.”

Alysha, 15, knows she wants to study A levels at Rochdale Sixth Form but is uncertain what career to go into,

However, she wants to complete the National Citizenship Scheme when her GCSEs are finished and fortunately her interviewer was from NCS.

She said: “I thought it was going to be really scary, but it was all right. My interviewer said afterwards that there was nothing I could have done any better.”

The event was organised by Careers Advisor Laura Grenaghan in conjunction with Della Machie from the Department of Work and Pensions and Penny Heys from Inspira’s Careers Enterprise Company.

Other employers were Phil Corn Architectural Services, Todd Research and Cruise Academy.
