Reuse Littleborough to register as a charity and move premises

Date published: 19 June 2018

Community group Reuse Littleborough is to move premises from Smallbridge into Littleborough centre, and also register as a charity.

The group received keys to its new home on the ground floor of the former Royal Oak Hotel on Monday (18 June) and has confirmed it will be up and running six days each week at the end of July.

The shops at Stevenson Square will remain open every Saturday from 10am to 4pm until the move.

Michael Bamford, who runs the group, said: “The future use of the Royal Oak is now secure, and our landlord has been very generous and so helpful. We are looking forward to working with him as our venture unfolds.

“It’s a very exciting project as the Royal Oak will give us a central place for donations and for sales.

“We will need lots of help to get the area into a pleasant useable space, but this will allow us to continue with all the things we have going on, plus future plans we have to help local families with babies and children

“We have also made the decision to register as a charity, as this will enable us to be exempt from VAT, receive a massive 80% discount on business rates and open the door for funding.”

Reuse Littleborough aims to reuse many unwanted items and save them from the bin, giving them new leases of life by passing them on to families in need.

Currently the group operates a shop selling surplus items, plus a new mother and baby resource centre, stocked with prams, clothing and shoes for babies of all ages, plus carry seats and various toys to help new and expectant mothers in need who have very little.

Since its inception, the group has helped change the lives of many people both locally and internationally with your old items that have been kept out of landfill.
