Rochdale Borough Council’s director of neighbourhoods Mark Widdup said: "The team have been dealing with fallen tree incidents throughout the day as a result of the stormy weather and are working to clear any debris as quickly as possible.

"Five trees have been reported so far as being damaged or uprooted including one on Baillie Street, Rochdale and one at Boarshaw Road, Middleton.”

A tree branch was reportedly partially covering lane one of the M62 just before junction 21, with cars swerving to avoid it.

No injuries have been reported.
