Inspectors hailed The Mews' excellent use of modern technology to support people’s independence and privacy.

In a further boost inspectors also lauded staff for their kind, caring and patient approach with residents and for creating a safe and welcoming environment.

The nursing home, in Fenton Street, provides nursing care and accommodation for up to 50 residents with disabilities. It is owned by East and West Healthcare who took over the running of the home 18 months ago.

Councillor Iftikhar Ahmed said: “This is an outstanding, inspiring and innovative nursing home which has been rightly recognised for delivering a high quality standard of care. The council is proud to be working in partnership with such a dynamic and forward looking management team.

"As cabinet member for adult care I was delighted to visit the home to chat with staff and see at first-hand what an excellent facility it is. I was immediately struck by special bond between residents and staff and the warm and welcoming caring environment.

"Congratulations to everyone at this well-led home who have made this outstanding rating possible. It’s yet another Rochdale success story to be proud of.”

Martin Donovan, manager of The Mews, said: “I am incredibly proud of our excellent team of staff. To gain the accolade of outstanding at a large and busy younger disabled nursing home is no small feat. Our dedicated and tireless team should be extremely proud of what they have achieved.”

Azad Choudhry, chariman of East and West Healthcare Ltd, said: “We are extremely proud of our staff, as this could not have been achieved without their continuous commitment and compassion for providing high standards of care to those who live at the Mews. It is our compassion and commitment to providing high standards of care, which cannot be achieved without an excellent manager and a highly skilled and committed workforce.”
