Charity car wash raises £1,354

Date published: 11 June 2018

A car wash near the Bangladesh Association and Community Project in aid of charity raised £1,354.38.

It was organised by Amaanah Foundation as part of a wider project to raise £16,000 for Muslim Hands to build two classrooms at their Bangladesh Primary School of Excellence. The school currently operates in a rented building, educating 176 children, who are mostly orphans.

Held on Ramsay Street, Rochdale, the car wash was also attended by local MP Tony Lloyd.

Amaanah Foundation was set up to help educate the less fortunate by providing two classrooms for children in school in Syhlet, Bangladesh. Many of the volunteers from the charity have Bangladeshi roots and felt this would be a great way to give back to their motherland.

A representative for Amaanah said: “Inspired by the Late Humanitarian Ali Banat who dedicated his life to changing the lives of the underprivileged, he showed the most important thing we can do in this life is to help others have a better future.

“The volunteers hope the money raised for the classrooms will be a stepping stone to providing education for 62 children each year mainly being orphans, building bigger, more ambitious projects in future.”

Tony Lloyd MP said: "It was really important to see the number of young Rochdalians getting together to raise money for a school in Bangladesh. The young people nevertheless gave up time on a beautiful and sunny day to clean cars and collect money for charity.

"I went along to support what is a really worthwhile cause because many of the children in the school are orphans. Giving them a start in life has to be a major thing, both good for the individual and the world. I was delighted to be a part of it, and I have a much cleaner car now."
