Appeal for directional road sign

Date published: 11 June 2018

Kingsway Practice is appealing to Rochdale council to put two directional road signs in place.

The practice, which is situated between Kingsway Morrisons and the Newbold tram stop, want two signs erected on both sides of the road at the traffic lights. The signs would say ‘Kingsway Practice’ with arrows pointing to the building.

Former councillor David Clayton, who started the appeal after speaking to the practice manager Lisa Dodd, said: “It really is a matter of urgency.

“There has been - on more than one occasion - situations where emergency response vehicles and paramedics have completely missed the building as there are no signs. Apparently even the Mayor got lost while trying to find his way to a recent open day.

“There was a heart emergency not so long ago and the paramedics weren’t familiar with the area and had no idea where to go.

“In a situation like this, the fact that there are no road signs really is a matter between life or death.”

A spokesperson for Rochdale council said: “We have received a request for a directional sign to Kingsway Practice, an officer will assess the request and respond to the applicant once the assessment has taken place.”
