Littleborough Food & Drink Festival
Littleborough centre was all abuzz as hundreds of people filled the square for the annual Food & Drink Festival on Saturday (9 June).
Now in its fourth year, the food trail was bigger and better than ever with shops around Littleborough playing host to range of stalls, including Parker’s Preserves, Kandy Kitchen Creations, Badger Cider, Busy Beans Coffee, and The Gin Joint.
Delectable treats filled Hare Hill Road and Victoria Street with everything from The Travelling Pig hog roast and British cheeses to gluten-free sausages and vegan fudge and milkshakes by Shake, Batter & Roll.
A wide range of world foods were available such as Candystripes’ American sweets and corndogs, wild boar and venison from Astag Venison Supplies, Polish sausages, Issan Friends’ Thai street food, and traditional pretzels from the likes of Göhrt Bäckerei.
Sweet treats on offer included handmade brownies and cakes from Ridiculously Rich by Alana, artisan flapjacks from Wildebakery and Sugar Chic’s handmade fudge.
Entertainment was provided throughout the day by Wardle Junior Blast, The Jager Maestros Oompah Band and Sing Littleborough, plus energetic Zumba with Caroline and cookery demonstrations showing culinary prowess from Graham Sherwin and Andy McKay.
Back by popular demand, little chefs also learned how to make tasty treats at the cookery school, children’s crafts took place at Star Tree Studio and many faces were painted by Vix Facepainting.
Simon France, from Littleborough Events & Associations Forum (LEAF), which organises the festival alongside local business owners, said: “The Littleborough Food & Drink Festival has a reputation for being great, and I’m glad it lived up to it. It’s a fantastic attraction that brings people from Wigan, Liverpool, Todmorden, Hebden Bridge to see what we have on offer.
"We couldn’t do this without the LEAF volunteers and the council have been superb this week, making sure everything was ready.
“This year, there was a greater variety of world foods, and we brought back the cookery school.
"We are very grateful for the support we have here and at all our other events like the rushbearing and farmers’ markets.”
Neela Jackson, LEAF member and owner of Star Tree Studio, said: “We have had the weather on our side and more stalls than ever.
"It has been the best turnout and it is really good for all the businesses and volunteers who have given up their time to put the event on.
"The fantastic people of Littleborough and beyond have come and supported us and that is what makes it the success it is.”
