Local residents invited to nominate GPs and GP practice staff who go the extra mile

Local residents are being asked to nominate GPs and GP practice staff who go the extra mile to provide high quality patient care for its annual awards.

The STAR awards – Special Thanks And Recognition awards, which are organised by HMR CCG - aim to celebrate and recognise staff for the excellent work they do to help the CCG deliver its objectives and achieve its vision of healthier people, better future.

The People’s STAR (Nancy Fallon Memorial award) is voted for by the public and patients and will go to a GP, practice manager, practice nurse, GP receptionist or healthcare worker who is deserving of special recognition for their high quality, compassionate and individualised patient care.

Four other awards are nominated by staff internally within the health service for special achievements.

• Silent STAR - For a person or team that consistently supports colleagues, makes a real contribution to the Rochdale borough or just makes people smile – the little things matter.
• Innovation STAR - For a person, team or project that has contributed to improving patient care in the Rochdale borough through innovation or service improvement.
• Shining STAR - For a person or team’s extraordinary work or achievements to support the work of NHS Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale Clinical Commissioning Group.
• STAR team - For a team that works together to demonstrate excellence in its work towards improving the health of local people in the Rochdale borough.

Also this year to commemorate the NHS 70th birthday, long service employment certificates are being given to acknowledge long serving employees who have served the NHS for 20 or more years.

Dr Chris Duffy said: “Our People’s STAR award gives local people and patients the opportunity to nominate a member of staff at their practice who they feel are deserving of this award. The awards are to celebrate and publicly recognise the excellent work that GP practice staff do in Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale.

"If you've been impressed with the care you've received or the way you've been treated by your GP or someone at your GP practice, this is your chance to say ‘thank you’ by nominating them, all staff even if they are not winners will receive information about their own nominations.”

How to nominate

To help with shortlisting and the final selection of winners, you should give as much detail as possible about the person or team you are nominating within the word limit. This could be about their achievements; approach to colleagues, patients, work, change or challenges; reasons why they are a great example for others and employees of which the NHS can be proud; or what they've done to provide excellent customer service.

Be clear about why you think the person or team you are nominating is a HMR STAR. Say why, in up to 200 words, you feel they deserve an award.

Nominations will close on 20 July 2018 and winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on Friday 21 September 2018.
