North West Charity of the Year Awards

Emily Kennedy, Springhill Hospice

With just a few days to go until nominations officially close for this year’s North West Charity of the Year Awards, Springhill Hospice’s Emily Kennedy is preparing for a difficult road ahead.  

Head of Business Development and Fundraising at the Rochdale hospice, Emily has been honoured with the opportunity to join other industry experts in judging this year’s awards, choosing between many worthy candidates.

Emily explains that, “Working in the charity sector I get the privilege of meeting and engaging with the most amazing supporters, volunteers, individuals and teams, all of who contribute and make a difference to so many worthy causes in the area.

"I feel honoured to be sitting on a panel of my peers within the charity sector and absolutely humbled to have the chance to read about the efforts of those nominated across the different categories. In the same breath, I feel slightly apprehensive about the task in hand, as I am in no doubt that there will be stiff competition between all nominees and the decision process is going to be a very difficult one".

With an events management background, Emily has worked in the fundraising charity sector for 10 years, as well volunteering and raising money for her own favourite charities.  This puts Emily is in excellent/unique position to understand the dedication and commitment shown by all the nominees to make it to this stage of the competition.  North West Charity Awards reward many departments across the sector, with awards such as Volunteer, Young Charity Ambassador or Volunteer Team of the Year, as well as recognising the work of professional fundraisers and their teams.

“Working at Springhill Hospice provides me with just a glimpse of some of the hundreds of fantastic individuals and teams who are worthy of such nominations. I consider myself very lucky to work for such an amazing organisation, where care, focus and dedication puts the needs of those facing a life limiting illness first. I am truly proud, not just of the work we do at Springhill Hospice, but of the work and passion carried out by Hospices across the countries and other charities alike”.

With nomination closing on 15 June, Emily and her panel of fellow judges will undertake the difficult task of reading and selecting the best entries for each category.  Please do not wait until the final hour to enter a deserving team or individual from your organisation.

The winners of the North West Charity of The Year awards will be announced at a dinner at The Principal Manchester on 12 October.
