Rochdale resident scoops £30k on Postcode Lottery

Date published: 30 May 2018

Champagne corks were popping in Rochdale over the weekend as one person celebrated winning £30,000 thanks to her lucky postcode.

Local gift shop owner Carolyn Greenwood (52) landed the cash when OL11 5TA was drawn as the winner of People’s Postcode Lottery’s Street Prize on Sunday 27 May 2018.

Carolyn was stunned to discover how much she’d won when she pulled her cheque out of the golden envelope, she said: “This is absolutely amazing and very surreal. I feel like I’m just floating on air at the moment.

"I’m definitely going to book a holiday to the Maldives as it’s somewhere I’ve always wanted to go - it’s going to be amazing to treat myself and my partner Tony to the trip of a lifetime.

“My son is also graduating from university in Edinburgh in a few weeks’ time, so now we’ll be having a double celebration!”

As well as treating herself to a well-deserved holiday, Carolyn plans to expand her business with the windfall: “I opened up a shop in Rochdale called Pookys a few months ago so this win means I’ll be able to launch a website now and has come at a really good time.”

People’s Postcode Lottery ambassador Judie McCourt presented Carolyn with her cheque and offered her congratulations: “I’ve had an absolute blast in Rochdale and I’m totally thrilled for Carolyn."
