A pensioner was taken to hospital after being cut free from a car following a collision at the junction of St Mary’s Gate and Hunter’s Lane on Saturday afternoon (26 May).

Fire crews from Rochdale and Heywood, along with a Response Unit from Ashton Under Lyne, attended the scene at 2.26pm.

A black and a blue car had collided at the junction and one casualty in their 60s was rescued from one vehicle. Fire crews used stabilising and cutting equipment and were on scene for approximately 90 minutes.

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service confirmed they sent a rapid response vehicle and an ambulance to the scene before taking the casualty to Royal Oldham Hospital.

Greater Manchester Police said: "Police were called shortly before 2.30pm on Saturday 26 May to reports of a two-vehicle collision on Hunters Lane, Rochdale.

"Emergency services attended and found a blue Peugeot 307 had been in collision with a black Peugeot 208.

"The driver of the black Peugeot 208 was taken to hospital as a precaution."
