‘Celebrating 100 years of World War One’

Rochdale town centre is set to receive a new garden feature ahead of the RHS In Bloom competition.

‘Celebrating 100 years of World War One’ will be installed next to the Gracie Fields Statue outside Rochdale Town Hall in the coming weeks, and will be a showpiece in both the regional and national In Bloom contests.

The design and theme is based on 100 years’ celebration since the end of World War One, which includes engraved poems, benches, soldier silhouettes, a picture frame aimed towards our great cenotaph and a fantastic floral display, including poppies and other symbolic plants. 

The garden is a collaboration between Rochdale In Bloom and Rochdale Council Environment Management, and will be installed voluntarily by Paul Ellison with two members of the Environment Management team. It has been sponsored by Paul Rogers from Marshalls.

Mr Ellison said: "I shall be giving my time voluntarily installing this great 'Pop Up Garden' feature.  I'm also looking forward to working with Jamie White and Mark, who are two excellent Environmental Management staff members.

"We would also like to thank Paul Rogers from Marshalls, for his company sponsoring this meaningful project, and Ian Trickett from Rochdale Council Environmental Management, who has worked alongside me on this."

A smaller version of the garden will be also be showcased at this year’s Royal Horticultural Society’s flower show in Tatton Park.
