The Mayor of Sahiwal, Rochdale's twin town in Pakistan, pays flying visit to Rochdale
Sardar Asad Ali Khan, the Mayor of Sahiwal, Rochdale's twin town in Pakistan, paid a flying visit to Rochdale to thank the people of the Borough of Rochdale, members of the Sahiwal Working Party and to attend the Mayor Making ceremony at the Rochdale Town Hall.
Mr Khan met with newly sworn in Mayor of the Borough of Rochdale, Mohammed Zaman at the Mayor's Parlour, to congratulation him on behalf of the people of Sahiwal. He extended his best wishes to the Mayor Zaman in his mayoral year and the people of the Borough of Rochdale.
He also met with members of the Sahiwal Working Party and thanked them for all the hard work they have been doing for improving services to the people of Sahiwal.
Tributes were paid and prayers were offered for late Abdul Hamid Choudhary and other members who are no longer with us know for paving the way to the twinning of Sahiwal and Rochdale.
Ghulam Rasul Shahzad OBE, Public Relations Officer of the Sahiwal Working Party, provided the background of the twinning in 1989 and projects which had been developed since then.
Members also discussed various projects and mentioned the success of the maternity hospital project and the Free Eye Camp and hoped various similar projects would be developed that would benefit the local communities.
