Mayor opens hate crimes reporting centre

Date published: 11 May 2018

Mayor Ian Duckworth opened a new hate crimes reporting centre at the Castlemere Community Centre on Wednesday.

A hate crimes seminar at the centre was also held to raise awareness about the hate crimes.

Ghulam Rasul Shahzad OBE, of organisers Greater Manchester Neighbourhood Watch Association, said: “The speakers were concerned with the increase in the hate crimes within society, its impact on the victims, families and the society as a whole. They shared their experience and were of the opinion that we should be dealing with such hate crimes by working together with the police, local authority, organisations and residents. We should be establishing neighbourhood watch associations/schemes for community centres, places of worships and organisations should establish hate reporting centres to combat this evil within the society.”
