Springfield Park has something for everyone

Date published: 12 May 2018

Between Rochdale and Heywood is the borough's largest park with landscaped and wooded slopes down to the Roch Valley.

Springfield Park has lots of attractions and features for all ages, abilities and disabilities.

With play arears for toddlers to teenagers to test and stretch themselves on, including a sandpit for digging and building in.

For those with mobility problems the park has numerous hard paths throughout the park, and with the help of the Friends of Springfield Park, a tarmac path all around the lake.

On summer weekends, you can ride on a miniature steam railway which runs around the side of the park and past the golf course.

Sports facilities include a football pitch which is used by Springfield Junior Football Club, cricket squares for games with friends and family, tennis courts, five-a-side football courts an athletics track, a permanent orienteering course and an Marland Golf Course, an 18-hole golf course which is open to the public.

The gardens are maintained by the park staff with help from local Green Team members.

There is plenty of room for picnics with picnic tables round the lake and lots of grassed areas for ball games.

For families, dog walkers, children on bikes or scooters, or just a gentle stroll in the fresh air, Springfield Park really has something for everyone.

The Friends of Springfield Park was formed in 2008 to Improve the sporting and leisure facilities and raise funds for community park projects. They work with the local council to improve existing amenities to preserve, develop and enhance the current amenities.
