St George's Night concert raised £1,260

Date published: 08 May 2018

The St George's Night concert at St Andrew's, Dearnley raised an event record £1,260 for church funds.

The figure is believed to be the second biggest ever produced at a single event in the church's 123-year history, behind the £1,353 which was raised at last November's Autumn Fair, featuring the St Andrew's Primary School choir.

Led by Wardle Anderson Brass, the St George's concert was a sell-out with more than 150 tickets sold in advance and late-comers paying on the door.

Ada Pratt, chair of the church's social committee, said: "It was a fantastic night, led by brilliant local musicians whom we have already booked to come back next year.

"The committee thanks everybody who attends our functions and helps us out behind the scenes."

Bishop Mark Davies, Bishop of Middleton, will be at St Andrew's on Sunday 13 May to baptise baby Ethan, grandson of the vicar, the Rev Rachel Battershell, during the Sung Eucharist, which starts at 9.30am.

He will be back a fortnight later, on 27 May, for a Confirmation service at 6.00pm at which there will be candidates from St Andrew's, the Benefice of Littleborough and Christ Church, Healey.
