Tony Lloyd MP and Councillor Shaun O'Neill joined local firefighters for Firefighters' Memorial Day

Date published: 06 May 2018

Tony Lloyd MP and Councillor Shaun O'Neill joined local firefighters at Rochdale Fire Station to commemorate Firefighters' Memorial Day (4 May) with a minutes silence taking place at 12pm in order to remember the bravery and sacrifice of firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

Mr Lloyd said: "We ask our firefighters to put themselves into danger to keep us safe.

“Fortunately death doesn't happen often but we do remember Stephen Hunt who died on duty in 2013 and all others."

Firefighters' Memorial Day started in 2017 and will be marked on 4 May every year to remember the 2,524 members of the fire and rescue service who have died while protecting the public.
