Serious incident on M62 westbound closes motorway

HGV fire closes M62

An HGV fire between J22 and J21 near Milnrow has closed the westbound carriageway of the M62 (4:21pm, Saturday 5 May).

A recovery and clear-up crew is currently on the scene.

All trapped traffic was released via the eastbound carriageway and is now clear. Lane four remains closed eastbound for barrier replacement.

Westbound traffic is advised to exit the M62 at J22 and follow the hollow diamond diversion symbol.

Take the A672 southbound towards Denshaw. Then take the A640 westbound towards Newhey and then take the A6193. Re-join the M62 at J21.

Road users are advised to expect delays and to allow extra time for their journeys.
