Man jailed after killing a co-worker when his speeding car crashed

A man who killed a co-worker when his speeding car crashed into tree, has been jailed. 

Seif Khan (06/05/1994) of Ansdell Road, Rochdale was been sentenced to three years in prison for death by dangerous driving at Minshull Street Crown Court on Friday (4 May).

On 12 December 2016, Khan was giving two people a lift in his red Seat Ibiza and was driving along Bolton Road towards Edinburgh Way, travelling at speeds up to 70mph in a residential area.  

As he went around a bend, Khan lost control of the car, which crossed onto the opposite carriageway and mounted the pavement, where he collided with a tree.

Salih Mehmed, who was in the passenger seat, was left with critical injuries and taken to hospital for treatment, where he died the next day.

When Khan realised the severity of what had happened, he urged the other passenger to lie about his speeding, asking him to say Khan’s driving was “normal”.

Despite this, Khan was arrested that day and found guilty at an earlier hearing.

Police Constable Nicola Greenhalgh of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Salih had no idea when he got into the car with Khan that he would never make it home.

“Because of Khan’s reckless and dangerous driving that night, a family have lost their beloved son and brother.

“Despite Khan’s denial that he was speeding, we have been able to prove otherwise, and he will now spend the next three years in prison facing the consequences of his actions."
