Competition to design 70th birthday card for the NHS

Date published: 02 May 2018

The NHS is 70-years-old on 5 July 2018 and a competition has been launched for primary school children to design a 70th birthday card to mark the occasion.

Primary school pupils in reception class to year six are invited to create a 70th birthday card which shows how doctors, nurses and other health professionals have helped them, their families and friends.

Budding artists can use any colouring or craft materials they like and designs must fit on the birthday card template. This is available at the link below.

Three winners will be announced at the HMR CCG Annual General Meeting being held on 15 June 2018 at Number One Riverside, Rochdale.

Winners will receive sports and leisure prizes donated by Link4Life. The first prize winner’s entry will also be displayed at Number One Riverside during July as part of plans by HMR CCG and Rochdale Borough Council to celebrate 70 years of one of the nation’s most loved institutions.

Dr Chris Duffy, chairman of HMR CCG and an NHS GP in Rochdale borough for 25 years, will be one of the judges helping to pick the winner. He said: “This competition is a great opportunity for us to see what the NHS means to the younger generation and celebrate the hardworking teams working in the local NHS.

“The competition prizes include a six month Junior Link4Life membership, one summer holiday play scheme place and family swim vouchers, so we’re hoping for lots of local primary school children to get involved.

“Children and young people make up roughly one fifth of Rochdale borough’s population and the NHS’s 70th birthday offers an important opportunity to inspire young people to think about their own health and wellbeing, as well as considering a career in the NHS.”

The closing date for competition entries is 31 May 2018.
