Heywood Charities Fete Committee seeking votes to bag a share of Tesco funding

Date published: 02 May 2018

Heywood Charities Fete Committee is bidding to bag a cash boost from the Tesco Bags of Help initiative.

A spokesperson for the Committee said: “We are delighted to have been selected to be shortlisted for in-store voting commencing from 1 May. The funds will contribute to providing a great community for Heywood’s much loved annual long-standing event to be held in September this year, and we would be extremely grateful if you could support us.”

Tesco teamed up with Groundwork to launch the monthly roll-out of its funding scheme, which sees grants of £4,000, £2,000 and £1,000 – all raised from the 5p bag levy, being awarded to local outdoor community projects. Since launching in 2015, Bags of Help has awarded more than £33 million across more than 6,400 local projects in 600 communities.

Three groups in every Tesco region have been shortlisted to receive the cash award and shoppers are being invited to head along to Tesco stores to vote for who they think should take away the top grant.

Each time you shop you will be offered a blue token at the checkout and be able to vote for your favourite project, which change every other month.

Voting for Heywood Charities Fete will be possible in local Tesco stores throughout May and June.
