Date published: 27 April 2018

A man has been taken to hospital after inhaling smoke during an industrial estate fire in Rochdale on Friday (27 April).

Fire crews were called at 11.03am to reports of a fire at the Fieldhouse Industrial Estate and remained on scene until 2.57pm.

Two engines from Rochdale and one from Littleborough attended before being relieved by engines from Blackley and Whitefield. A hazardous area response team from North West Ambulance Service was also in attendance.

The fire originated in a spray booth in a single storey building measuring 20m by 20m. Fire fighters used breathing apparatus and a jet to tackle the blaze.

The man had evacuated himself prior to the arrival of fire crews before North West Ambulance Service took him to Royal Oldham Hospital.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: “Due to the nature of the incident, the firefighters also underwent decontamination.

“Advice was given to the responsible person regarding clean up and potential hazards.”
