Fly-tipping on Littledale Street

Date published: 27 April 2018

Littledale Street in Rochdale has become another fly-tipping ‘grot spot’ after general rubbish, bottles and bin bags have been reported several times this year.

A local resident said he has been reporting this to Rochdale Council for at least a year, as “they are supposed to check and clean every week and it never happens”.

The Council’s director of neighbourhoods, Mark Widdup said: “We’ve had two complaints of fly-tipping this year from Littledale Street. On both occasions we’ve sent a team to clear the area. They found loose litter of plastic bottles and general rubbish but were unable to recover any evidence.

"Some of the land in the area complained of belongs to Rochdale Boroughwide Housing and we have passed on residents’ complaints to them.

“Fly-tipping and littering are problems we are committed to tackling. Dropping litter is a criminal offence which carries a maximum fine of £2,500. Offenders are routinely offered Fixed Penalty Notices of £75 in the first instance.

“Anyone with any information regarding those responsible for the littering around Littledale Street should call our contact centre in confidence on 0300 303 8884.”
