Middleton Rotary Club Race Night raises £1,670 for Transporting Ugandan Sick Children

Date published: 24 April 2018

Middleton Rotary Club held their annual 'Race Night' to support the work of Transporting Ugandan Sick Children (TUSC) on Saturday, 21 April.

The 'Race Night' was held to support the work of TUSC, a small charity organisation that provides transport for sick and disabled children, pregnant women and others with health needs from villages around Jinja, Uganda to clinics and hospitals.

Bets were placed on horses sponsored by Rotary members and friends and lots of fun was had.

Rotarian Sue Furby said: “Young and old attended and perhaps the highlight of the night was the winning of the race by the horse sponsored by young Adam - everyone was delighted by his generosity and joy at his success.

“Surely children helping far-away children has got to be the most wonderful thing ever."

Over 100 people attended and along with a raffle and the generosity of friends raised £1,670 to help the work of TUSC.

Sue said: “This kindness is only part of the support that Rotary Middleton have given TUSC as they are sponsoring a monthly session of physiotherapy for profoundly disabled children, who would not be able to attend if it wasn't for the transport that is provided."

Bev Yarwood from TUSC said: “TUSC is very grateful and humbled by the efforts that went into the night and the amazing amount raised, every penny of which is used out in Uganda to run the project.”
