Heywood Scout and Guide Associations St George's Parade

Heywood Scout and Guide Associations gathered on Sunday (28 April) for their annual St George’s Parade.

The parade started from Harwood Park School led by Cadishead Community Public Brass Band, then onto Hornby Street, King Street, Mount Street, Manchester Street, Church Street and L/Cpl Stephen Shaw MC Way where the groups paraded past the Cenotaph to salute the Township Chairman Peter Rush, Heywood Councillors and dignitaries.

The parade then continued onto Market Place and Taylor Street to St Joseph’s Church for a service led by Father Daly where they renewed their promises.


Groups taking part in the parade included:

  • 12th Heywood (Our Lady & St Joseph’s)
  • 7th Heywood (St George's)
  • 1st Heywood (St John’s)
  • 3rd/4th Heywood (Ravenscroft)
  • 8th Heywood (St Luke’s)
  • 9th Heywood (St Michael’s)
  • 9th Heywood (St Margaret’s)
  • 2nd Heywood (St Luke’s)
  • 4th Heywood (St Luke's)
  • Heywood Rangers
  • Trefoil Guild

Baden-Powell, who started the Scouting movement, chose Saint George to be the patron Saint of Scouting. He felt that the Saint George legend set a good example of faith, courage and perseverance for future generations.
