Poppies bloom in Middleton for war centenary

Middleton in Bloom will be installing ornamental memorial poppies around the town
Middleton in Bloom is creating a commemoration memorial of the centenary of the end of World War One, in the form of ornamental poppies.
The poppies will be displayed on the streets where Middleton soldiers used to live.
Martin Cove, of the Middleton in Bloom team, said: “We have the names of soldiers and the names of nearly 150 streets they lived on that are still in existence.
“For the others, we are hoping to put the poppies on buildings near where the streets used to be. For the soldiers who we only have names but no address, we are hoping churches and other public places will agree to one or more being installed.”
The ‘adoption fee’ is £15. For this, you receive poppy fixings and an adoption certificate which will have the name of the soldier(s) that your poppy will represent and, if possible, information as to which rank or battle he served, plus any additional information that might be held.
Any profit will be split between Help for Heroes and the Lee Rigby Foundation.
If you would like to ‘adopt’ a poppy and see if your street is listed, contact Middleton in Bloom at:
