Maternity services talk at the Royal Oldham

The Royal Oldham hosts a free talk on ‘Maternity Services’ next week

A free talk on ‘Maternity Services’ will be held at the Royal Oldham Hospital on Wednesday 4 April.

Simon Mehigan, Divisional Director of Midwifery and Gynaecology, will be giving an overview of the services provided to pregnant women and their families at the Royal Oldham and North Manchester Hospital sites.

The services have recently been classed as 'good' by the CQC having previously been classed as 'requires improvement'.

Mr Mehigan talk will also include details of how the Trust is working towards the government’s target to halve the number of stillbirths in England by 2025, reduce the number of babies born on or around their due date that are unexpectedly admitted to the neonatal unit, and the most recent aim announced by the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care that ”20% of women will receive continuity of carer by April 2019” in line with the recommendations of 'Better Births', the national review of maternity services published in 2016

The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust helped just over 9,000 babies into the world in 2017, including 107 sets of twins.

Care is provided to women on two labour wards and in two birth centres, as well as supporting those women who choose to give birth at home.

Over 400 midwives and maternity support workers are employed across the two hospitals and in the community served.

The talk will be held on Wednesday between 2-3pm in the Education Centre at the Royal Oldham Hospital, Rochdale Road.

The event is free and is one of a series of ‘Medicine for Members’ events arranged to give the public and the Trust’s public members a greater insight into their local hospital and the services it provides.
