Preschool children raise £180 for charity with danceathon

Date published: 23 March 2018

A group of Rochdale children all under the age of five have raised £180 for charity with a danceathon.

Will Barnes, three, William Gander, four, Lucas Mosoph, two, JJ Morris, 22 months, and Annabella Morris, 8 months, all danced nonstop for an hour at Bluebelles Childminders on Craigslands, in aid of Sport Relief.

The youngsters, who even made their own t-shirts, performed to songs like Music Man, the Hokey Cokey and tracks by The Wiggles.

The ‘go go disco’ danceathon came as part of the Cbeebies Go Jetters programme, which sees characters explore on energetic adventures. Through taking part in the disco, all the children have been meeting the Early years foundation stage standards in their physical development, communication and language, expressive arts and design and mathematics.

Childminder Sammie Rothwell, 36, who has been looking after children for two years, said: “We decided on an hour’s sponsored dance. To make Sport Relief fun for nursery aged children, Go Jetters want to get children active and moving, so that’s why we had the idea for a disco.

“The children had some groovy moves and so far have raised £180.”
