Drainage system for Ashworth Road approved

Date published: 28 February 2018

Work to install a new comprehensive drainage system at Ashworth Road has been approved.

Ashworth Road in Norden was closed to all vehicles and pedestrians in October 2017 due to wide cracks covering the entire width of the road following a landslide.

In January, slight movement in tarmac up at the top by Hurst Wood was reported and a large crack appeared in the field leading to Dobbs Wood.

The drainage system will be introduced along 250m of the affected length with £432,000 allocated from the Insurance Reserve Budget to complete the worlds. Repairs are expected to last 25 weeks after commencing in April.

This option provides the shortest construction time on site, and a 120-year design life solution to support the collapsed part of the road. The drainage system will channel water away from the steep embankment.
