Warning of snow and ice for the rest of the week

Date published: 28 February 2018

Frequent and heavy snow showers are expected on Wednesday and Thursday leading to some significant accumulations developing. Long delays and cancellations on bus, rail and air travel could occur.

A spell of snow, heavy in places, is likely to move slowly north from Thursday morning onwards. The snow will be accompanied by strong winds, leading to the potential for drifting of lying snow. Delays and cancellations to public transport are possible, as are delays to travel on roads; some stranding of vehicles and passengers could also occur. Some rural communities could become cut off. Interruptions to power supplies and mobile phone coverage are also possible.

Further bands of snow, heavy in places, are likely to spread north during Friday. Through Friday evening ice may form on untreated road and pavements.
