Woman hit by a train

A woman who was hit by train close to Rochdale Station was pronounced dead at the scene on Saturday.
A British Transport Police spokesperson said: “Just after 8.30pm on Saturday 24 February officers were called to Rochadale Station following reports that a person was struck by a train.
“Sadly, a woman in her 50s was pronounced dead at the scene. Her family have been informed.
“This incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
Consequently, train services were suspended between Rochdale and Todmorden.
