Littleborough couple win £10,000 in Cancer Research prize draw

Date published: 15 February 2018

Alison and Graham Sherwin, owners of the Green Door Restaurant in Littleborough, were presented with a £10,000 cheque after being drawn as the winners of the Cancer Research UK Big Prize Draw.

This prize draw took place across the whole of the UK to raise vital funds for life-saving cancer research. There were over 50,000 tickets sold for the draw, which had a top prize of either £10,000 cash or a new Renault Clio Play car. There were also second and third place prizes of £500 and £250.

The draw closed on 24 December 2017 and the winners were chosen at random on 22 January 2018.

Alison was presented with her £10k cheque on Friday 2 February at the Green Door Restaurant, with Polly Williams, the local fundraising manager from Cancer Research UK, and Steve Bagley, Head of Imaging and Cytometry at Cancer Research, both in attendance.

Kath O’Donnell from the fundraising group Three Amigos, where Alison bought her ticket, said: “We got a message from Graham at The Green Door Restaurant asking me to ring so I did, and he told us his wife Alison had won the winning ticket for the car or £10,000.

“We were both shocked and excited, but we wanted to be sure this was true.

“Once it was verified, we were just ecstatic with joy.

"We remember giving them the tickets and them saying they never won anything.

“We called later that day to the Green Door Restaurant to congratulate them as Alison and Graham are big supporters of ours.

“We are overjoyed that we sold the winning ticket as we are only a small community.

“We wish Alison all the best and she is a much-deserved winner.”
