Heritage Lottery Fund bid made to restore war memorial

Date published: 14 February 2018

St James the Apostle Parish church in Milnrow has put a bid in to the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) to restore the war memorial in the graveyard, which will be 100 years old in 2018.

The project idea is to repair the stonework, name plaques, railings and flags, and also to improve the access by cutting back the pathways and improving parking.

Dave Bamford, who helped put the bid together, said: “It seems appropriate to get it restored this year for the centenary of its installation.

“We are looking to hold some events for the general public – open days, a celebration and memorial service so that people can learn more about the heritage of the village and those who gave their lives to keep it ours.”

In addition to using funds raised by St James’, Pennines Township has also been approached to make up the shortfall.

If you would like to get involved in the gardening/clearing/access, want to make a cash donation to the project, have a memory of the memorial, or are related to a person named on it, Mr Bamford would like to hear from you:
