£5,200 awarded in grants to local voluntary groups
Date published: 14 February 2018
A total of £5,200 was awarded in grants to local voluntary groups and organisations at the Heywood Charities Fete AGM on Monday (12 February).
The AGM was hosted at Sandon House with centre volunteers providing a meat and potato pie supper for the guests.
The proceeds raised during the Heywood Charities Fete in September last year were split between a number of local groups, including Heywood in Bloom, The Friends of Hopwood Park, Heywood Veterans Association, St Luke's Guiding Group, Sandon House, Heywood Explorer & Scout Unit, Roch Dynamos Football Club, Kats Dance Events & Community non-profit Group, Heywood children's charity Little Monkeys.
Mayor Ian Duckworth, President of the Charities Fete Committee, presented a representative from each group with a cheque for a sum between £150 and £300. Each representative explained how the money would benefit their cause.
The committee gave a special thank you to George Kinder in his absence, who has now stepped down after being a valuable member of the organising committee for many years. New members of the organising committee are also being sought.
The fete has a rich history dating back to the 1930s, and the theme for this year’s fete will be ‘Animals’.
